World’s First Bitcoin Crypto Cruise Ship Will Soon Set Sail
October 15, 2020
There is much excitement in the crypto sphere at the moment, as the world awaits a world-first in Bitcoin luxury services to arrive off the coast of Panama. Bitcoin hodlers and crypto enthusiasts have long awaited viable and usable options to spend their crypto fortunes on – and Oceans Builders has obliged.
The Seapod home company has announced its acquisition of a former P&O Cruises vessel, dubbed the Pacific Dawn, with the intention of turning it into a luxury cryptocurrency living complex. The vessel will even be renamed the Satoshi, in homage to the father and founder of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Goods and services aboard the vessel will be available to all its residents in both BTC (Bitcoin) and US Dollars, making it a world-first floating crypto-hub.
Ocean Builders COO, Chad Elwartowski, is optimistic about the venture and had this to say:
“We look forward to creating a hub for technology and innovation here in Panama. Our goal is to figure out how to live sustainably on the sea and chart new waters in this new frontier.”
Preparations are currently being made to sail the vessel from its current Mediterranean mooring to the Panama Canal, where the ship will be permanently anchored half an hour away from Panama City by ferry ride.
What’s All on Offer?
Unlike a traditional cruise liner where rooms are hired out to customers, the suites and staterooms aboard the MS Satoshi are due to be auctioned off for permanent ownership and even long-haul residency.
It is said that the cabins will go for between $25,000 and $50,000 each (excluding monthly levies). The target market is said to be aimed at businesses within the crypto industry, as well as business moguls. It won’t be out of the question for regular families to buy in on the action either.
The first auctions will take place between the 5th and 28th of November 2020, where the accommodation will be sold off one deck at a time. By selling off one level at a time, it gives the opportunity for companies and groups to purchase neighbouring cabins more easily.
In keeping with the luxury expected on such liners, the boat will boast a diversity of amenities and services for all on board, including dining facilities, bars, a luxury spa and fitness facility, salons, retail outlets, lounges, doctors rooms, movie theatre, and water park.
Decentralised Through and Through
It seems evident that the punters of decentralised cryptocurrency are taking their values even further by locating their livelihoods into International waters, where no specific governmental state can lay stake to the business conducted aboard.
While this may be a worthwhile experiment, it could come with some drawbacks. For instance, the boat will be in neutral waters which means that it cannot be protected by any one individual state’s law enforcement. This could pose a greater security risk to all aboard the vessel.
The challenge of residency status in an extra-territorial location has also been raised; one of many things that will need to be navigated and solved.
While some eyebrows may have been raised with the initiation of this venture, only time will tell if it is a success or not. But we won’t have to wait long find out either, as the first occupancy of the vessel is expected to begin early in 2021.
