Celebrities pull together to support MGM Resorts employee fund
April 25, 2020
All around the world, people are being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the most prominent issues is that households are being hit financially as many sectors of the business world have been shut down.
While casinos and resorts are not able to operate at this time, staff are left with little to no income. Rather than leave their staff to fend for themselves, MGM Resorts International is stepping up to the plate.
The MGM Resorts Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund has been created to provide their employees with much needed short-term cash injections to aid in paying rent and other bills.
Not only does the fund have big plans and is being backed by MGM, but they have a few famous faces adding donations too.
Entertainers do good for MGM staff
MGM Resorts International recently praised their generous entertainment partners who added donations to the Employee Emergency Grant Fund.
Famous names such as David Copperfield, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Kathleen Madigan, David Spade, Boyz II Men, Brad Garrett, Carrot Top, Terry Fator, Ray Romano, Jabbawockeez, Shin Lim, Thunder from Down Under, Hans Klok, Australian Bee Gees, Fantasy and Bill Blumenreich Presents all showed their support and raised a lot of money in the process.
Donations from the entertainers mentioned above, backing from MGM Resorts, and contributions from other individuals and companies (including the MGM Resorts leadership team) has set the fund up with an estimated $11 million! This will go a long way in ensuring that MGM staff members are taken care of while staying safe at home.
Family first in the face of the pandemic
MGM Resorts International’s Acting CEO and President, Bill Hornbuckle, commented:
“During these difficult and uncertain days, weeks and months, we are working tirelessly to support the tens of thousands of employees who were furloughed or laid off due to the closures of our properties across the country.”
“We are incredibly humbled by the support of our entertainment partners, who have come together to assist the people who, during normal times, are committed to creating incredible experiences for our guests from around the world.”
It’s heart-warming to see the casino and entertainment industry pull together in times such as this and provide for their family wherever possible.
